When champions of it talk it up as ‘seaweed in a glass’ they are usually doing so with an awareness that this is a sensory tapestry more than two centuries in the weaving. Imagine a dimly lit Havana study in late-century light where the air was thick with the scent of Spanish cedar and that heavy drunken perfume of fermentation, as cramped with books and manuscripts as the air shudders to receive it.

Strike that wooden match and a slick, glossy wrapper is unveiled; and when that first lung-full of smoke is drawn -voila! It’s not just smoke, it’s decades of ingenuity that have altered the way the world views a premium cigar.

**Ramón Allones** is full-bodied, rich and complex. Christ, this product is orders of magnitudes darker and less floralthan the other floaty marcas mass marketed brands. It's the scent of a sun-soaked Pinar del Río after rain, the taste of dark roast coffee beans and remantspice from high-grade formal wear. Tohold one of these vitolas is to touch the blueprint of the modern cigar industry, a physical manifestation of when tobacco became not merely another commodity but an object that had been cut for luxury.

Heritage & History

Founded** Ramón Allones**It was sometime between 1837 and 1845. It is now one of the oldest surviving brand names still in Habanos S. A.'s portfolio. Founded in 1830 by the Galician (northwestern Spain) immigrants Ramon and Antonio Allones, the marlca was named after them to groomed as a technique dominance. rette with Ramón Allones (a leader who had spent years researching the subtleties of the leaf under the tutelage of tobacco baron Juan Conill Pi.

The factory where cigars are still to this day (1996) being skilfully rolled was founded in 1845 at No.129 Calle Animas, the place of pilgrimage for connoisseurs of the art of cigar making - or 'making 'Habanos' as some would call it.

Also, in addition to its high quality tobacco the brand is due a few “Firsts,” that only longtime enthusiasts think about. A marketing pioneer, Allones was the first to adorn his boxes with lithographs, and artistic works of exceptional quality are emblazoned on some of the original labels. The brand was established in 1837 (first registered April 20th 1848) by Mr Allones and it is said that this size of cigar actually owes its existence to Allones who instructed his factory manager to make cigars with the end of the box left over at the end of a days production.

The fillers and binders are selected from the finest Vegas Finas de Primera of this line, in which its characteristic microclimate and soil rich in minerals provide leaves with a higher oil content and elasticity.

That this tobaccois dense. The blend is intended to be strong, with plenty of ligero leaves as the "muscle" flavor. The wrappers are of course darker than normal – most, but not all, leaning toward the deep maduro or colorado-maduro end – and each can bring in a good bit of sweetness to the beginning due to it. The incredibly careful selection process means that the tiniest sizes in the range feature brazed seams and little pigtails, all with the personality of much larger cigars.

Signature Lines & Vitolas

The line has been trimmed somewhat in its offerings, but the surviving blends are benchmark smokes that every self-respecting smoker should try at least once. The Specially Selected is probably the best known–a robusto that many a-collector to be will put up as consistency and delivery of flavour alongside the iconic Serie D No.4. For a longer, more contemplative trip, the Gigantes (a Prominente size) is as fine a lesson in evolution from spice to cream over two hours as you can get.

The brand also warms the cockles of those who like the smaller stuff; such as this Small Club Coronas, which delivers (in spades), a lot of what we have come to expect from this intense marque at an exact four inches by thirty-four ring gauge. In the social hierarchy of cigars, where a Siglo VI is fumbled for by some in order to indicate refinement and rank himself above his station- much more frequently my restless but untutored old smoker will retreat back to an Allones Extra or one of the Regional Editions.

Thusfar, these limited-editions have become some of the most sought after lots at auction and typically serve to showcase how the brand’s powerhouse style takes shape in individual, modernized modes.

Tasting Experience

Smoking a **Ramón Allones **is the power play of poise. The flavor profile is rich in “dark” notes — bitter chocolate, espresso, toasted walnut and a distinct charred-wood character. It doesn't pretend to be all smooth and easy, like many of the "light" brands out there - you'll know right away that your mouth's been put to work, so you can appreciate it from the first puff – but then again, a little medium/full-bodied weight is good for your cigar 'chewing palette; nice to know where you stand.

A complex black pepper-like spice joins in toward the end which tingles your throat and never became harsh thanks to me nubbing it (smoking to the very end of it).

The power is great butintricate. It serves that feeling of having had enough to eat, so it’s perfect if you follow a big dinner with a drink. To get to the core of themost distinct elements of this blend, sip along with a heavily sherriedhighland malt scotch or an aged dark Caribbean rum. That sweet note of the spirit plays well with the savory, earthy core of tobacco to create a spectacular blend that harks back to both Cognac and Hoyo’s centuries-old philosophy blendingphilosophy.
