Mild but never boring
Some mild cigars are just bland. The Open Master avoids that trap completely. There's real flavor here — cream, cedar, a touch of vanilla. It's just delivered gently. I enjoy these on summer evenings with a gin and tonic.

When you first light the Open Master, the draw is noticeably easier than many other Cuban Robustos, which often suffer from being plugged. It starts with a very distinct sensation of dry wood and toasted tobacco, lacking the heavy ammonia kick that fresh cigars sometimes carry. You get an immediate wash of delicate cedar and a subtle herbaceous note that feels like dried grass or hay. There is a faint sweetness underneath, reminding me of light cocoa powder, but the dominant cha

The Montecristo Open Master is a Robusto format Cuban cigar measuring 124 mm (4.9") with a 50 ring gauge, presented in boxes of 20.
Designed as a more approachable expression of the Montecristo blend, the Open Master suits smokers who prefer a medium body with complexity that does not overwhelm. It is suited to both seasoned collectors and those exploring Cuban cigars for the first time.
The wrapper is a light Colorado claro shade with a fine, silky sheen and gentle oiliness, reflecting the Open series' emphasis on refinement and accessibility. The triple cap is cleanly applied, and the foot shows an evenly packed bunch of Vuelta Abajo long-filler tobaccos. Firmness is consistent, and the 50 ring gauge provides an ideal surface-to-filler ratio, concentrating the blend's character into a focused 40-to-50-minute session. The draw offers mild resistance — smooth and effortless — producing aromatic smoke with satisfying volume. The burn line is even and self-correcting, leaving behind a pale, firm ash. The flavour family centres on light cedar, cream, and toasted almond, with a subtle sweetness and gentle white pepper rounding out the profile. Hay and a quiet floral lift add dimension without weight, and the overall body is balanced and elegant — refined rather than powerful. A versatile cigar suited equally to a morning smoke, an outdoor social occasion, or a relaxed afternoon break where approachable quality is the priority.

The Montecristo Open Master has become my weekday evening cigar. It's long enough to enjoy for about an hour but not so demanding that you need to concentrate on it. Creamy, slightly sweet, with notes of light wood and a pleasant floral quality I don't find in most Cuban cigars. Pairs amazingly well with white wine or a light beer. If you're new to Cuban cigars and want to try Montecristo, the Open Master is a fantastic starting point.
