Montecristo No.2 Not Worth the Hype
Smoked through a box over the past month during evening walks. The Montecristo No.2 has a legendary reputation, but honestly? Disappointed. At 52 ring gauge and 6 1/8 inches, construction should be consistent box to box - it wasn't. Some burned evenly, others canoed badly. Draw was hit or miss, with a few plugged cigars that killed the experience. Flavor-wise, you get classic Montecristo cocoa and leather, but it doesn't evolve much. People call this the best budget cuban cigar for daily smoking, but the quality issues make it frustrating. For my rotation, the Partagas Serie E No. 2 wins hands down - better construction, more complexity, similar price point. The No.2 isn't terrible, just not the daily driver it's cracked up to be. Three out of five because expectations weren't met.
