The Behike 54 greets the palate with immediate creaminess—thick and coating, closer to clotted cream than anything light. Coffee grounds and a defined cedar note arrive within the first centimetre, establishing a profile that feels composed rather than building. Leather appears on the retrohale, smooth and well-integrated, while a faint vanilla sweetness lingers at the finish. The draw is consistent, producing dense, aromatic smoke. For a 54 ring gauge, the opening is remarkably focused.
The transition into the second third brings a noticeable shift. Earth notes deepen beneath the coffee, adding a mineral quality that grounds the sweeter elements. White pepper emerges with more conviction on the retrohale, sharpening the profile without disrupting the overall balance. The creaminess persists but now competes with a darker, more savoury character—cocoa nibs and toasted wood. Smoke production remains excellent, and the burn line holds true.
The closing third intensifies deliberately. The coffee note darkens to espresso, leather takes on a richer, more assertive character, and a subtle spice builds at the back of the palate. Cedar remains present but has dried out, offering a woody backbone beneath the heavier notes. The finish is long, creamy, and layered with lingering coffee and cedar.
