The La Fuerza lives up to its name — "the fortress" — from the very first draw. Dark wood and earthy tobacco fill the palate, accompanied by a peppery spice that commands attention. The smoke is thick and aromatic, the 50 ring gauge delivering dense clouds with each draw. Beneath the assertive opening, there are toasted nuts and a hint of espresso that hint at the complexity ahead. The body establishes itself at medium-full immediately.

The middle section deepens the experience considerably. Rich leather and damp earth take centre stage, while a bittersweet cocoa note adds richness. The pepper from the opening settles into a steady warmth, no longer sharp but ever-present. Coffee develops into something darker and more roasted. The El Laguito construction is evident in the even burn and perfect draw. Sweetness surfaces periodically—perhaps dried fruit—providing brief respite from the blend's intensity.

The La Fuerza's final third is where the most robust expression in the San Cristobal range reaches its peak. Charred oak, mineral notes, and full leather dominate. Named after Havana's original title — San Cristóbal de La Habana — this brand was launched in 1999 to celebrate the city's 480th anniversary. The La Fuerza represents the most robust expression in the range, produced at the El Laguito factory with the same precision applied to Cohiba production. The name translates to "the fortress," a fitting description for this bold Robusto.
