Smoked one, aging the rest
Opened one from the box to test and it was sublime — no pun intended. The remaining cigars are going into long-term storage because they're only going to get better. A true investment-grade cigar.

First Third
Two decades of aging have transformed this cigar's opening into something remarkable. The first draw delivers a wave of fermented sweetness—dried fruit and aged cedar intertwined with a cream that has deepened well beyond its original character. Coffee arrives immediately, dark and smooth, free of any youthful bitterness. The 54 ring gauge produces cool, thick smoke that fills the mouth effortlessly. The body sits at a confident medium-full, polished by time into seamless integration.
Mid-Section
The Sublimes format reveals its true depth in the middle third. Leather and earth rise through the cream foundation, adding weight and complexity. Vanilla becomes more pronounced, joining notes of cocoa and toasted nuts. The spice element is restrained—white pepper that surfaces periodically on the retrohale before retreating. Each draw reveals a new layer, a testament to both the original Edicion Limitada tobacco selection and the transformation that extended aging brings.
Final Third
The closing third of a well-aged Sublimes is a collector's reward. The intensity builds but remains controlled—dark wood, espresso, and mineral notes joining the leather and earth base. The cream persists as a binding element, preventing any single component from becoming harsh. The finish extends for minutes after each draw, warm and complex, with cedar and coffee lingering longest.

Cohiba was established in 1966 as a private brand for Fidel Castro and high-ranking Cuban officials. For years, these cigars were exclusively reserved for diplomatic gifts and state functions, never available to the public. The Sublimes format was introduced for the 2004 Edicion Limitada programme, featuring tobaccos aged a minimum of two additional years beyond Cohiba's already rigorous standard. The Sublime vitola—at 164 mm with a 54 ring gauge—was designed to showcase the full breadth of Cohiba's blend in a generous format that rewards slow, contemplative smoking.

$4550.00
The Cohiba Sublimes Limited Edition 2004 is a Sublime format Cuban cigar measuring 164 mm (6.5") with a 54 ring gauge, presented in boxes of 10. Released as part of the 2004 Edicion Limitada programme, it uses tobaccos aged for a minimum of two additional years beyond Cohiba's already rigorous standard.
With two decades of natural ageing, this is one of the most sought-after collector's pieces in Cuban limited-edition history. The medium-to-full profile delivers cream, cedar, and earth with a depth and integration that only twenty years of careful storage can achieve.
Rolled at El Laguito with the precision expected of Cohiba's most exclusive releases, the Sublimes showcases exemplary construction that has held up beautifully over its considerable lifespan. The generous 54 ring gauge delivers a cool, voluminous draw, while the aged wrapper has developed the evolved, complex character of mature Cuban tobacco. The overall flavour family is rich and harmonious — cedar, cream, and earthy sweetness interweave seamlessly, with a smoothness that speaks to the complete integration of filler, binder, and wrapper after two decades of rest.

The Cohiba Sublimes LE 2004 is legendary among collectors for good reason. This was one of the finest limited editions Habanos ever produced, and with twenty years of age, it's reached a plane of perfection that new production cigars simply cannot touch. I smoked mine slowly over two hours — dried fig, aged mahogany, a hint of sweetened cocoa, and an almost wine-like quality in the final third. The ash was white and firm, the burn impeccable. If you're looking to buy vintage Cuban cigars, this is the holy grail.
